Review
I was not sure what to expect from this Toolkit. Was it a DVD of tools, outdated texts, or…? When I inserted the DVD and browsed the contents, I noticed start.exe. - well, a good place to start. I double clicked on it and what opened up was a very simple but attractive GUI tree. There were little under 5,000 tools in about 500 subcategories. There were articles, E-Books, reports and code. There were also categories for PDA’s, Protocols and Exploit Code.
I first browsed the tools category, curious to see what goodies these guys offered. I have to admit, it was a very comprehensive list that included everything from network and host tools to personal firewalls. The variety was great, and the categories greater. The only concern I had was that the version on the DVD can become quickly outdated. But none-the-less, it’s a great reference if you’re looking for something. Worse case scenario, you go to Google.com and search for an updated version of the particular tool.
This Tools section though, is the bread and butter of the DVD. As I said, there are tools for every occasion!
Next, I headed over to the E-Book section. There were many categories again to pick from including Cryptography to Web Design and Graphics - certainly something in here for everyone. A category which caught my eye was one entitled ‘Misc Crap’. I found it to have articles on the Secrets of Lock picking and Pressure Points to An Algorithm for Defeating the Computer-Assisted Passenger Screening System. As you guessed, some very unique and interesting articles that would make good reading.
Another catchy category was ‘Hacking Reports’. In here there’s the Best Defacements section with one of my favorites: a defaced SecurityFocus site by the Fluffi Bunni.
Concluding: given the flurry of the internet, that is, out with the old and in with the new, content like this will not be available online in years to come. This DVD - at the moment packed with the latest articles, tools, code etc. - might become one of the few comprehensive time capsules of this current technological era. Who cares? Probably no one just yet. But like how we are fascinated with hacking and technology of the 80s – for it gives us a perspective of where we came from – ten years from now, who knows how much of today’s “history” will be preserved for us to retrospect.

If you want a great resource for reference, this is it! Very, very comprehensive!

- Improved performance of the Security Toolbox, information has never been that easier to find
