Ba mảnh ghép, một chuyện tình

Để lại người yêu xinh đẹp Emily ở nhà, Will gặp gỡ Summer (bạn đại học của Emily) - một nữ phóng viên tài năng và đầy tham vọng. Anh còn kết thân với cô bạn đồng nghiệp trong chiến dịch vận động tranh cử tổng thống, April, cô gái luôn thờ ơ với chính trị, rất sôi nổi và cá tính.

Sự kết hợp của cha và con

Nếu không có lời đề nghị bất ngờ và mạnh dạn của cô nhóc lên mười, chắc gì ông bố trẻ có dịp ôn lại chuyện cũ. Và khi có thời gian tĩnh tâm để nhìn lại mọi chuyện, một kết thúc có hậu không phải là điều vượt quá tầm tay.

Trong Mảnh ghép tình yêu, nam diễn viên Ryan Reynolds và diễn viên nhí Abigail Breslin đã thể hiện khá thành công vai diễn cha và con. Đạo diễn Adam Brooks ngay trong lần đầu tiên gặp Ryan đã thốt lên: "Đúng như tôi vẫn tưởng tượng, khi vừa gặp, tôi đã có cảm giác ở Reynolds có những tài năng khó kiếm".

Câu chuyện bắt đầu từ năm 1992 khi Will khăn gói lên New York tham gia chiến dịch vận động tranh cử của ứng cử viên Đảng Dân chủ Bill Clinton. Và một quãng thời gian dài trong cuộc đời Will sau đó là những mảnh ghép tình yêu từ 3 câu chuyện tình với 3 cô gái mà một trong số họ chính là mẹ của Maya.
Trước khi lên New York, Will có một mối tình đẹp với Emily, người mà anh luôn muốn cưới làm vợ. Nhưng như bao cô gái khác, Emily lo rằng người yêu cô sẽ thay đổi sau khi tới thành phố lớn và náo nhiệt như New York. Ở nơi làm việc, Will quen với cô gái phụ trách việc photocopy, April, đầy cá tính và mạnh mẽ. Hai người luôn khắc khẩu nhưng nào ngờ, thời gian ở gần nhau và những gì họ vô tình chia sẻ khiến cả hai dần cảm thấy mến đối phương. Chướng ngại lớn là April đã có người yêu.

Trước khi lên New York, Will được Emily nhờ đưa một gói nhỏ cho cô bạn tên Summer. Không nén nổi tò mò, chàng trai trẻ lột vỏ món đồ và sững sờ khi đó là một quyển nhật ký. Những gì mà Will đọc được khiến anh bị sốc bởi nó tiết lộ quãng thời gian Emily và Summer học chung và những tình cảm ngang trái nảy sinh giữa hai cô gái.
Bọc cuốn nhật ký lại như cũ, Will đến nhà Summer nhưng chưa kịp gặp nhân vật chính, anh đã bị “bố” của cô chuốc say bí tỉ. Tỉnh dậy, Will chưa hết ngỡ ngàng vì ông già kia chính là người tình của Summer thì anh lại ngây người khi nhận một nụ hôn của cô gái xinh đẹp chỉ vì “tò mò”.

Cuộc đời Will sau đó đầy ắp những xáo trộn: Emily thú nhận đã ngủ cùng bạn chung phòng với Will trước kia, anh trở thành bạn tốt với April và có một mối quan hệ khá nóng bỏng với Summer. Nhưng chuyện tìm ra mẹ của cô bé Maya không hề dễ dàng. Và liệu có chuyện người phụ nữ mà cô bé ghét lại chính là người đã sinh ra cô?
